Acquisition: New anthology of beast bride and bridegroom fairy tales edited by Jennifer Pullen
Lanternfish Press is pleased to announce the acquisition of Beastly: An Anthology of Shapeshifting Fairy Tales, edited by Jennifer Pullen, for publication in Fall-Winter 2025.
“Beauty and the Beast” is one of the most beloved fairy tales of the current era—but this French tale is only one of many stories from around the world that feature a shapeshifting, beastly bride or bridegroom. Featuring popular favorites like “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid” alongside lesser-known classics like “Bisclavret” and “The She Bear,” Beastly will also include four hard-to-find tales.
Jennifer Pullen holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Ohio University, as well as degrees from Eastern Washington University and Whitworth University. Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies including F(r)iction, Phantom Drift Limited, Corvid Queen, Pinch, and Strange Machines (Apex Publishing). Her books include A Bead of Amber on Her Tongue and Fantasy Fiction: A Writer’s Guide and Anthology, the first comprehensive history of fantasy and craft guide. She grew up running wild in the forests of Washington State. She has since been sufficiently domesticated to become an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Ohio Northern University.
