Fiction from the Florida Frontier

  • Matheson History Museum 513 East University Avenue Gainesville, FL 32601 United States (map)

Join James Chapin in-person at the Matheson on Saturday, September 4 as he reads from his debut novel Ride South Until the Sawgrass. Chapin will tailor his reading to materials inside the Matheson History Museum, creating a conversation between literature and history.

For the safety of staff and attendees, capacity will be limited to 50 people and masks are required. Admission is free but registration is required.

Set during the tumultuous years of the Florida Territory's Second Seminole War and early statehood, Ride South Until the Sawgrass follows the Primrose and Quinto families. Told through four tales, the lives of the two families cross, separate, and inevitable intertwine. Writer Ben Montgomery (A Shot in the Moonlight) said Ride South Until the Sawgrass “lands among the best fiction writing inspired by rugged old Florida.”
